This craft is simple but very effective to remind children of the symbolism in the story. It looks at the Mountain as a place of worship, the well as a place of water, and the harvest. While it can be made individually it would also be great scaled up for a notice board. To make the individual craft you need just one sheet of paper or thin card with the design printed onto it and a pair of scissors.

As you can see there is just 2 pieces to cut out. The mathematics of this construction means you need to be fairly accurate with those cuts. Now comes the more delicate cuts. Do all the cutting before you start to glue! First cut along one side of the grey blocks, then cut along the top and bottom of the well stones, finally cut round the edge of your hay bail until you reach the rope.

You should now have a small slit in the sky, a bale of hay only attached by the middle ropes, and three strips of well. You need to fold those well pieces outwards so they have a nice firm crease, repeat with the hay bale too. Separating the hay is optional, I have done so at the bottom for this demonstration by cutting along the dark brown lines.

Time to construct and reach for the glue. As a rule we will only add glue to the grey areas. The hay bale is the best place to start. Overlay the paper so the sky and ground cover the grey square completely. If you have cut slits in the hale bale fluff these out a little.

Next comes the well. Glue the smaller pieces of wall together first, and then the background so the well stands out. The mountain is a little more tricky and may need to be held for a moment for the glue to dry. Finally add glue to the inside of the frame and starting at the well end stick the whole thing in place. This will actually help keep the mountain in position. Additionally, staple or glue a ribbon for them to hang their creations of stick a magnet to the back for the fridge!
